Musical Groups for Bruce Zweig:

Trovatore

Trovatore is a duo composed of Bruce Zweig on piano and Roger Linn on mandlolin. We play on the 1st, 3d and (when present) 5th Mondays of each month at the Caffe Trieste in Berkeley, and at private parties.

Roger and I play traditional Italian instrumental music based on the folk melodies of Napoli (Naples) and Sicilia (Sicily), with some other more modern tunes (Arrividerce Roma, O Sole Mio) added for variety.

By the way, the Trovatore is Italian for "troubador" and is also the name of a rather dark and twisted Verdi opera.

Mattinata di Matteo

Mattinata di Matteo is a group that plays traditional Italian folk melodies at the original Caffe Trieste in North Beach on Saturday mornings from 10 Am till noon. I was one of the founders of the group. Originally, this group included Bruce Zweig on piano, Roger Linn on mandolin, Sheri Mignano on accordion, Bruce Sherman on mandolin, and from time to time Kathy Sherak on mandolin and Joe Rosato on acoustic bass. The group continues to be entirely acoustic, and, along with the Trieste's great coffee, is a great way to start your Saturday mornings.

I named the group is named in honor of Matteo Casserino (see below) who inspired many of the members with his wonderful playing.
